Watermilfoil

Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum heterophyllum).

This plant is a quick growing aquarium plant. It helps to oxidize the water and provides cover for small fish and fry. Most aquatic snails will make it their home. Plants we ship are freshly cut from our growing stock.

Do not confuse this plant with the Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum) which is an invasive species and not recommended for aquariums.

This plant, Myriophyllum heterophyllum, is native to many parts of the US but is considered an endangered species in some states.

We recommend initially putting a rooting tablet underneath to promote early root growth.

The plant will quickly root (in 5-10 days). Once it is established it will grow profusely. You will probably need to cut it back regularly to prevent it over growing the entire tank. Cuttings can be taken and can be rooted given the right conditions.

In a normally healthy aquarium the plants need no special attention. They thrive in water around 78F, but once established, will grow quite well in almost any fresh water conditions.

We supply this plant in a bunch of five or more cut stems for $4.  Shipping is $12.50 for all orders with a before tax total of less than $65.  Orders over $65 (exc. tax) ship free.
